Young As We Are
I was a child
once, playing in a meadow
					listening to
the sound of a stream - the joy it would
		  bring
			I was a princess,
                all lace and fineness
              I didn't know
what it meant to pretend I
            was queen
I was an actress,
oh how I practiced my lines
    Sure they were
mine
	      I was a goddess,
        standing in a white dress
	        striking the
	        bell on the hill
	        turning the
	          wheel
Young as we are
		    caught in the
crossfire
					living on the
edge of a dream
we write the
next scene
					Young as we
are
eye of the hurricane
					we pivot on
the axis of time
and we write
the next line
I was a child
once, I had a small voice
					small enough
not to be heard - at least not
in words
					but in all my
innocence, I had the presence
not to know
I could not be - anything I pleased

					in my creations
of imagination, in my heart,
I knew my part
playing in a
meadow, I heard the world turn
					and I took the
wheel in my hand
a small grain
of sand
Young as we are
  caught in the
crossfire
					living on the
edge of a dream
we write the
next scene
					Young as we
are
eye of the hurricane
					we pivot on
the axis of time
and we write
the next line
